A German scholar named Eckhard Sander published in 1994 and his theory that the Grimm’s tale of Snow White was based on the real-life story of a countess named Margarete von Waldeck, who lived in the early 16th century. Margarete was a strikingly attractive young woman. Like Snow White she had a problematic relationship with her stepmother.
The story goes that Margarete moved to Brussels and had attracted Phillip II of Spain to marry her. However, Margarete was ill as a result of poisoning. Margaret died at the age of 21 years old. It was hypothesized that her mother was the perpretrator who poisoned her. How did the came into the story? Before moving to Brussels, Margaret had lived in a small mining town where the children were malnourished, which had the dwarven look.
